UPDATE (2/27/23 7:10 AM) - Good morning! The leading edge of the precipitation actually arrived sooner than I expected. I thought we would've gotten through the morning commute before we saw any precipitation. Be aware - if it's raining/snowing/sleeting where you are, slow down! Looking at the DOT's 511 map, areas, where we've seen sleet/mix, are ice-covered, including pretty much all areas in purple down below.
Just days after our most significant snowfall so far this winter, we are gearing up for another system. This time, it won't drop a swath of snow and it will all come in one round. The onset of precipitation will be Monday morning, around the time of the morning commute. With that being said, I don't expect major impacts to the morning commute. As it moves north, we'll see various precipitation types as the precipitation moves into a colder air mass.
PRECIPITATION-TYPE FORECAST
This is a tricky forecast due to the fact that there will be a sharp cutoff between these areas. Any shift in the storm track can shift that area north or south. This will likely change before Sunday evening, but here's where we stand as of Saturday night. I am expecting areas essentially along and south of Highway 10 to see a mix initially, but as temperatures warm above freezing, a switch to rain. Further to the north, I expect a rain/snow mix throughout the duration of this event. Finally, across the Northwoods, we should see mostly snow, but I can't rule out a mix in there either.
SNOWFALL FORECAST
After looking at the model runs, I've decided to push the 3"-5" area to the far northeastern portion of the area, with much of the rest of the area receiving 1"-3" of snow.
WINTER ALERTS
The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for areas west and north of Green Bay and the Fox Valley.
