Typically the new year brings in hope and peace, but I guess the weather has a different idea. Just days into the new year, we are gearing up and bracing for our first winter storm. While this won't be a massive snow-maker, but it will make for hazardous travel conditions.

Winter Weather Advisories will go in effect overnight for much of the area. Here's a breakdown of these advisories:

Portage, Wood

Until 10:00 AM Wednesday

  • Mixed precipitation

  • Up to 1" of snow

  • Ice accumulations up to 2 tenths of an inch

Marathon and Shawano

Until 10:00 AM Wednesday

  • Mixed precipitation

  • Up to 2" of snow

  • Ice accumulations up to 2 tenths of an inch

Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Northern Marinette, Menominee, Northern Oconto, Oneida, Vilas

Until 10:00 AM Wednesday

  • Mixed precipitation

  • 2"-5" of snow

  • Ice accumulation up to one-tenth of an inch

The bottom line: travel will be hazardous. I wouldn't be surprised if tow bans are issued for some counties. (A tow ban means if you go in the ditch, it will not be towed until conditions improve)
