LATEST UPDATE: This will likely be the final post regarding this snowstorm, other than snow reports. Heavy, wet snow fell overnight, but not as much as what was forecasted. The changeover from rain/mix to snow happened later than expected, which made snow totals lower. This was always a possibility and was noted in the original forecast. Road conditions are improving, but across the Northwoods, there's slippery stretches, snow-covered and icy roads. Please use extreme caution. All warnings/advisories have been expired across the area. We will have another quick-moving system that may bring a few more inches of snow overnight.

Here's a look at some snow totals:

ORIGINAL FORECAST:

TIMELINE

Pretty much all of the area is seeing some sort of precipitation as of 1 PM. Right now, it's relatively light to moderate but that will certainly change overnight. We'll switch to snow sometime overnight. The question is when will we switch and how quickly will snow accumulate. If we have a little more rain/mix than expected, we'd see less than the forecasted snow totals. On the other hand, if we switch over to snow faster than expected, snow totals are going to be higher. Please use extreme caution while driving and, if possible, avoid traveling at all. See below some ways to stay safe if you have to go out.

ALERTS

The entire area is under some sort of winter alert, whether that be a Winter Storm Warning (pink) or a Winter Weather Advisory (purple). See the full details of these alerts on our alerts page.

SNOW TOTALS

I've increased snow totals, based on current model trends and guidance from the National Weather Service.

ICE

Ice accumulation is for the most part over, so now the concern turns to re-freezing of that ice or freezing of any rain that has fallen, in addition to the snow that's expected to fallen. I'll leave this portion of the forecast in the post to be able to check back and see how accurate/inaccurate the forecast was.

TRAVEL

Travel will be very difficult and hazardous. If you don't have to be on the roads, don't be!

DISCLAIMER

This is a very tricky forecast given the various precipitation-types (snow, rain, freezing rain) and will likely change before or during the duration of this storm. Stay updated by following on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
